Buffalo to Peru, Chile, Brazil - $117 to $165 CAD roundtrip including taxes

Sao Paulo

COPA is showing flights from Buffalo to Peru, Chile, and Brazil for between $117 and $165 CAD roundtrip including taxes.

It's possible these are mistake fares, so if you book one of these, don't book anything else until at least 72 hours later, to make sure all is well with the airfare booking first.

They are currently verifying on BudgetAir when arriving from certain search engines, but when trying them on BudgetAir directly, they do not verify, which is a bad sign.

BudgetAir is also the only one showing these, another bad sign. The probability of them being ticketed is low.

Many of the flights are not great, involving multiple and longer layovers.

UPDATE Sep 17: These are gone now, but from reading the comments it appears people were actually able to get e-ticket numbers issued, which is a good sign.

Successfully made a booking at 10 AM. Received a receipt from budget air with eticket number and airline reservation code. Was able to access the reservation on Copa.com, pick seats, and even bid for an upgrade. Is a typical timeframe in which an airline would cancel bookings if they decide not to honour the error fare?

Was able to book, received email with booking details, but no official itinerary email as yet. Oddly, was not able to do seat selection. Not yet believing that this flight will ever actually happen for me.

Just received an email from BudgetAir, saying they’re sorry my booking was “unsuccessful”, and that I will receive a “cancellation of service refund.” Dang. Was so looking forward to seeing Chile. Hope others have better luck!

At this point I'm still able to see my reservation in the COPA app. The charge has been posted to my credit card. I selected seats. Keeping fingers crossed but prepared to get that dreaded cancellation email.

To Tem and others who received cancellation emails: had you received an eticket number? Had charges appeared on your credit card yet?

Great question, jsk. I'd love to hear Chris Myden weigh in on this. I know there's no exact science, but I wonder if there's a general period in which the airline would cancel tickets before it would become too much of a bad faith situation. We're 1 week out. Is 2 weeks a safe bet from when to make bookings?

During a situation like this I would say the percentage chance of everything being fine look something like this...

    24 hours have passed: 66%
    48 hours have passed: 80%
    72 hours have passed: 99%

This is assuming you were issued an eTicket number (13 digits).

I only say 99% because, well, nothing is 100% certain in life. But at this point, a week out, it's as solid as it gets.

Incredible $100rt to Lima and it looks like it's a go.

    Has Oliver been here?
       Oliver on September 25th, 2022

    Thanks for that reply, Chris!
Even though nothing is certain, that gives me confidence to go ahead and make bookings for hotels and other transport.

This is in the top 2 error fares I've been able to book thanks to YYZdeals!
$133 rt to Lima, and the $500 flight + 7 nights hotel package error to San Francisco earlier this year.

    Love this site!
